Henry Chesbrough

chesbrough1Induct advisory board head, Henry Chesbrough, literally 'wrote the book' on open innovation as a new concept when he first coined the phrase in his 2003 publication "Open Innovation: The New Imperative for Creating and Profiting from Technology". He has been described by the Economist® as the “Godfather of Open Innovation.” His pioneering book has altered the way companies think about the innovation process, and he is widely regarded as a leading figure in the open innovation community.

Since writing his original work, Henry has continued to research, teach and innovate in the field from his position as adjunct professor and executive director at the Center for Open Innovation at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. Prior to Berkeley he taught at Harvard Business school and holds a BA in Economics from Yale University, an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a PhD from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.

He has also written three other books on open innovation: Open Services Innovation: Rethinking Your Business to Grow and Compete in a New Era (San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, January 2011), Open Business Models: How to Thrive in the New Innovation Landscape (HBS Press, 2006) and Open Innovation: Researching a New Paradigm (Oxford, 2006), an edited book of academic papers.

“I’m delighted that Alf Martin Johansen (Induct founder and Chairman) chose to use my ideas about open innovation as the inspiration behind Induct”

Henry Chesbrough
